Special Stories and Songlines of Life, Land and Larder
Gnamma Holes are natural depressions or rock-holes hollowed out through chemical weathering processes in granite domes or other hard rock surfaces. They allow pools of fresh rainwater to form and have been an important and sometimes sacred feature for Aboriginal people for over 60,000 years. Gnamma holes created critical water supplies for the Aborigines, influencing their annual migration patterns or songlines across the western half of Australia.
In a similar fashion to gnamma holes, this site serves as a place where special stories of life, land and larder are gathered and pooled. The Gnamma Hole is repository of special places, people, and experiences that refresh, restore and enrich us along our life journeys – whoever and wherever we are in the world.

Fifteen million trees were felled by the Great Storm which hit the south of England in 1987.
But the remarkable Turner's Oak in Kew Gardens in London not only survived the storm, but also changed the way that trees are cared for around the world.
Tony Kirkham, head of the Arboretum at Kew Gardens has been telling Witness History about what he learned from the ancient oak.
For hundreds of years, the people of Mals had cherished their traditional foodways and kept their local agriculture organic. Their town had become a mecca for tourists drawn by the alpine landscape, the rural and historic character of the villages, and the fine breads, wines, cheeses, herbs, vegetables, and the other traditional foods they produced. Yet Mals is located high up in the eastern Alps, and the valley below was being steadily overtaken by big apple producers, heavily dependent on pesticides.
